Planning on adding social media to your wedding? Want to truly see the night through your guests’ eyes? Create a wedding hashtag and share it with your guests! Here’s five tips for creating a perfect hashtag for the big day:
- Be sure it’s unique – Once you have some options, do a quick search to see if it’s been used recently. If it has, you might want to rethink it!
- Be creative – Make sure your hashtag represents you and your wedding. ‘#thejoneswedding’ or ‘#jenandmarkswedding’ are obvious options, but what about ‘#aplusn4ever’, ‘#amandamarriesnick’ or ‘#jonespartyof2’? Look on Pinterest and wedding blogs for examples.
- Be sure it’s memorable – Though a private joke between two of you might seem like a good idea for a hashtag, if no one else can remember it, especially after a drink or two, you won’t be able to find all their fab updates from the night.
- Shorter is Better – On Twitter, you and your guests only have 140 characters – less with a hashtag, and even less with a photo! Use something that will make sense to your guests, but doesn’t take up too much space.
- Don’t use special characters! – Other than ‘#’, avoid special characters for your hashtag – they will break the hashtag and cause you problems when collecting your tweets and instaphotos.
